What Does the Procedure Entail?

Here are the basic steps of a corrective laser surgery:

● A thin flap is cut into the cornea using a tool called a microkeratome.

● The flap is folded back to gain access to the stroma, and a small amount of corneal tissue is removed with an excimer laser.

● The excimer laser uses ultraviolet light to reshape the cornea. The reshaping of the cornea will depend on what type of vision problem you have. This laser can also be used to correct astigmatisms at this time.

● After the cornea has been reshaped, the outer flap is put back into place. The flap will heal naturally over the next few days and only topical anaesthetic drops are required; no bandages are necessary.

Recovering from Laser Eye Surgery

Right after your procedure, you will likely experience a slight burning sensation in your eyes and see things blurrier than normal. This will get better as the cornea heals, though.
