3 Facts About Pink Eye (And How to Prevent It)

We all face some seriously annoying medical conditions in our lives. Acne is natural, yet feels like the bane of our existence when we get breakouts. The common cold? Seriously, you can’t even stay home sick from it! But there is one condition that might be the most annoying of all…

Conjunctivitis. Gesundheit!

Conjunctivitis is a condition most people get, but it’s more commonly referred to as pink eye. For the most part, pink eye is a minor condition that goes away within a few days on its own. Here are a few facts about pinkeye:

  1. Pink eye is most commonly caused by a bacterial infection of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is a thin layer that covers the inside of the eyelid and also the white part of the eye, also known as the sclera.
  2. Pink eye can happen to anyone, but people who don’t wash their hands frequently and then touch their eyes will likely be dealing with it more than others.
  3. Most cases of pink eye go away on their own, but some people need to get prescriptions if there is a viral infection and doesn’t go away after a couple of days

How To Prevent Pink Eye

It may be minor, but it’s annoying. In some cases, the condition can be painful and irritating. If you’ve had pink eye multiple times in your life, you should carry around a bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times. This way you can cleanse your hands if you feel the need to rub your eyes. Be conscious of your eye-rubbing habits and try to stop doing it so much if possible.
